Every year, on February 28, the world marks Rare Disease Awareness Day. This day reminds us that everyone deserves a fair chance at employment, including people with rare diseases and disabilities. Unfortunately, many face barriers such as stigma, accessibility issues, and misunderstandings about their abilities.
Around 350 million people worldwide have rare diseases, and about 3.7 million of them live in South Africa. Despite their skills and potential, many struggle to find work due to a lack of support, awareness, and inclusive hiring policies.
